Create - Inspire - Shine... Cinderella
A dream is a wish your heart makes. When you're fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartache. Whatever you wish for you keep. Have faith in your dreams and someday. Your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving. If you keep on believing. The dream that you wish will come true.
It has been sixty-five years since Walt Disney first created Cinderella in animated form. In 2015 real life fairy godmother, costume designer Sandy Powell has encapsulated the whimsical fairytale world, and brought the modern Cinderella to life within her stunning costuming.
Nine different versions of Cinderella's iconic, highly anticipated ball gown were created using crepeline silk, printed polyester, and iridescent nylon. Each taking 18 tailors 500 hours to construct using over 250 meters of fabric and 10,000 Swarovski crystals. Powell says, “I wanted to make the gown look enormous, The gown had to look lovely when she dances and runs away from the ball. I wanted her to look like she was floating, like a watercolor painting.” Tiny computer operated lights were used in the gown to add a magical element. The gown floats and simply looks like something from a dream, whilst in a sense the gown stays true in to the iconic animated depiction. Powell has used her magic to create a contemporary timeless fairytale adaptation with butterfly and crystal embellishment that looks like it should exist only within a dream.
You don't however need a team of people to bring your own Cinderella gown to life. Create your own using Turquoise and Lilac glitter tulle adorned in stunning embroidered butterfly motifs and beads it's easy to create a gown fit for a princess.
